Some of us have been fortunate, some of us haven’t had to experience head lice ourselves or see our kids experience it. Lice aren’t dangerous and they don’t spread disease, but they are contagious and can just be downright annoying. Their bites may cause a child’s scalp to become itchy and inflamed, and persistent scratching may lead to skin irritation and even infection. Head lice is most common for children 3-12 years old.

They spread mainly through head-to-head contact, but sharing clothing, bed linens, combs, brushes, and hats can also help pass them along. Kids are most prone to catching lice because they tend to have close physical contact with each other and often share personal items. Most common question is that if your pet has lice, you will have lice. Pets cannot catch head lice and pass to others around them and vice versa.

We recommend that you see a doctor to check your child on whether or not they may have lice. Your doctor will most likely say to use a medicated shampoo that helps treat for the lice.
